The need for this arose last weekend, when I was going to try to get my TINI board talking to the sensors that make up my security system. They require some 5V power in addition to the parasitic power provided by the data line. And the TINI will be running on 12VDC power, eventually from the 12V battery backup system (which will be charged continuously) so that it will survive power failures; so this supply also needed to run from 12V. Clearly a 7805 was called for; I found one at Radio Shack and didn't have to make a pilgrimmage to Fry's. I needed an enclosure, and thought of this.

The electronics aren't quite visible through the "transparent" silicone, but it keeps the wires from touching each other, and holds the input wire securely in case it gets yanked.

BTW, you could also put a radio in one.

And Joel Dueck has some other ideas.
