Near Nydalen the night of the torch-lit walk along the Akerselva River. Lots of art on display, various kinds.

Seen on the trail while hiking near Sognsvann. Norway has only one poisonous snake, much less dangerous than rattlesnakes and such, the European adder. I don't know if that's what this is or not. Not a very big one, maybe a foot long. We let him finish moseying across the path before continuing.

We didn't figure out if these are supposed to be edible or not, so didn't get any of this kind.

This might be part of Sognsvann, or just another lake nearby.

A really foggy day, and some fall color. View from our balcony at the apartment.

Maridalsvannet, the source of the Akerselva river (but I didn't see the hydroelectric part yet. Must be somewhere else?)

This was also done before the torch-lit walk along the river, but it's still there. I wonder how long it will be? Have to keep the tree warm all winter I suppose.

The biggest rapids along the river. A cozy little house is nearby, where two old ladies run a little cafe serving coffee and waffles.

It's lamb season in Norway in the fall. Fårikål is a dish rather like Irish-style corned beef and cabbage, except you use lamb and it's more natural, without the additives the corned beef has nowadays. It's very simple: throw equal parts of lamb and large cabbage wedges in a pot, with some whole peppercorns, add some water and let simmer for 3 or 4 hours. We had some at work in the cafeteria, and then I made a batch, from frozen lamb chunks which were quite cheap, but that turned out to be because it had a lot of bones. I think it's from the back of the lamb.

The ski jump at Holmenkollen, from a point about halfway up (as high as you can get without paying a fee to ride an elevator the rest of the way).

Nansen is one of the national heroes, famous mostly for his pioneering trip near the North Pole in one of the first ships custom-made for surviving areas where there is more ice than water - the Fram. It's on display in a museum but we haven't been there to see it yet. He was quite a rugged explorer from what I read on Wikipedia. Also had his 150th birthday a few days ago, which was commemorated with the Google Doodle of the day on google.no.
