Nansen is one of the national heroes, famous mostly for his pioneering trip near the North Pole in one of the first ships custom-made for surviving areas where there is more ice than water - the Fram. It's on display in a museum but we haven't been there to see it yet. He was quite a rugged explorer from what I read on Wikipedia. Also had his 150th birthday a few days ago, which was commemorated with the Google Doodle of the day on google.no.
